Details:
General Motors (GM) built Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV) powered by GM's 6.2L J-series Detroit Diesel V8 engine non-emissions diesel. Rated at 155 hp (116 kW) and 240 lb·ft (325 N·m), Equipped with the Turbo-Hydramatic (TH-400) automatic transmission. NP-208 chain driven transfer case. 10-bolt axles (front and rear) featuring 3.08:1 gears. This truck has the 3/4 ton chassis over the civilian 1/2 chassis. This truck has tons of life, diesel run excllent. All lights, turn signals, etc work. Painted in CARC Standard US Army camouflage green, brown and black. The rear axle is equipped with an Detroit Locker ("Gov-Lok") with the front being a standard open differential. The CUCV uses a 24-volt electrical system. It is actually a hybrid 12/24-volt system that uses 24-volts under the hood, complete with two (dual) 100 amp alternators, with NATO slave receptacle. The rest of the truck is 12-volt.

This is a military truck and does not have a lot of "comfort" but is a much more comfortable drive than the HMMWV series which replaced it. You can drive this CUCV to the trail with ease and it can still crawl without being trailered. The M1009 is a utility version of the civilian General Motors Chevrolet K5 Blazer, 2nd edition and was used for command and control purposes throughout the Department of Defense. The M1009 is rated for a 1,200 pound payload and a 3,000 pound towed load. It uses the heaviest duty GM springs available for the chassis and the rear axle is a 10-bolt unit. It rolls on 10.00-15 military steel wheels.
